You've been framed.....

For years I've had a gorgeous old frame with a rather naff oil painting in it...one of those things you move from house to house and try to make fit but it just ends up going on a wall because you can't get rid of it....

Well the time came.

I've just had a major revamp of the master bedroom and last week a whole bedroom full of new furniture arrived.....Yes, brand spanking new furniture and what's more, it all matches!

Sometimes these things just have to be done, having put up with mismatched, "it'll do for now" stuff for the past 10 years I thought it was high time I had something nice.

Anyway - that aside, I thought I'd finally do something with the gorgeous frame...

Here's the before - well a cropped shot of it from Christmas - typically I forgot the proper before one...

And here's the after....

I removed the naff oil painting (nothing valuable - I did check first) and set to work with an antique cream spray paint.  A couple of coats gave it a decent coverage.  I then used a dry brush and a bit of bronze enamel paint to brush some detail into the edges and bring it to life a bit.

I then managed to pick up a freebe bit of laminated board that just needed trimming to size, this was painted in a gorgeous duck egg blue paint from Wilkinsons - it's lovely paint and they do some fab colours.

The idea was to have a cat of some sort in the picture and I've trawled around looking for inspiration....when I saw a company on Ebay doing these gorgeous decals I snaffled one up.......

The duck egg blue is a subtle background colour in my new bedding so having this vibrant splash of colour on the wall with such a simple black shape looks amazing.

I love, love, love it.

  1. That is beautiful, you've done a great job! I really want to get hold of a large frame like that to make a sort of noticeboard, the search continues...

Can I ask what make and type of spray paint you used for the frame?
    Thanks! xx

  3. Thanks for the comments - Emma, the spray paint was from Wilkinsons, I think it's their own brand....it was called "antique cream" and they did a matt or gloss version, I used the matt one. Hope that helps.
