Kitchen work is alternating between fast pace changes and small almost unnoticeable changes. There's always plenty of dust and clearing up and I seem to be loading the car with rubbish on a daily basis to take to the tip. But we're getting there, slowly but surely.
Mum and Dad are fantastic, driving down every few days to get big jobs done and Dad leaves me with a list of "get this done before I come back" jobs.
Luckily our current kitchen is in the original smaller part of the room and our new layout mainly involves the extension part so we've been able to strip the paper/ceiling, get filling and sanding done before electrics were started. The units are now in on that side and today saw the cooker and hood go in thanks to Dad. Tomorrow he's coming back to fit the work tops, a job that would take me days to do but will take him a few hours.
Whilst he's been playing with electrics and plumbing on that side of the room I've been removing the old cupboards and de-tiling the other side (and finding some seriously naff electrics, some big holes and a soggy ceiling from a leak under the bath above).
So we're still eating dust with every meal, the contents of my kitchen are spread all over the house and I've got boxes of new kitchen in my living room. But the boiler work is finished (moved across the house and upstairs) we've got new radiators and had a new electric consumer unit board installed. Its been rather hectic and we've still got a long way to go but I'm enjoying it. I know it will be worth it and I'm really pleased to be doing so much of it myself.
