This one belongs to Hubby, from way back when, when he was packed off to boarding school whilst his parents were in South America, it then travelled with him to Australia before coming back to England....it's dented, it's battered and it's covered in rust.
So this is my next project.......remove the rust (can't unscrew the fittings as they're all rivited on!!), clean it up, inside and out and maybe paint the main body to freshen it up (and tie it in with the house).
So off I trotted to google for the best way to remove rust, luckily it was as simple (yeah right) as white vinegar....I've got loads of that so gave it all a good dampening down.....a bit of a rub.....a bit more vinegar....and then a scrape...a bit of sandpaper was called into action and then finally the steelwool attachment to the drill.
And it worked!
The brassy coating has gone but we're left with a burnished look which is fab - it shows all the dinks and dents which give it, it's history and shows just how nice it's going to look when it's finished....
One corner down - 3 to go...and the clasps.....and the lock.....and the side handles....and all the little rivets....just a few days work then!
Its going yo look fabulous, you wait and see.
ReplyDeleteGlad its you doing the work though, lol.
